Oxford: se·di·tion/səˈdiSH(ə)n/noun
“Conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch.”
Wikipedia: Sedition
“Overt conduct, such as speech and organisation, that tends toward rebellion against the established order. Sedition often includes subversion of a constitution and incitement of discontent toward, or rebellion against, established authority.”
Oxford is pretty short/direct. Since Wikipedia decides they need to elaborate, then let’s also cover “Overt” by texbook definition.
Merriam Webster: Overt / ō-ˈvərt / ō-(ˌ)vərt
“Open to view.”
Hm. Alright.
Might the police be an “established authority”?
“On my honor, I will never betray my badge, my integrity, my character or the public trust. I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for our actions. I will always uphold the Constitution, my community, and the agency I serve.”
This is not written to say that no officer breaks his/her oath, or that some even fully grasp, respect or cherish what they’re swearing to.
What a world it would be if there was no corruption and you could trust that no one would ever abuse their power or position. But they certainly do, and I’m not here to argue that particular point today. It is not relevant to the issue at hand.
So, if the police are an established authority, and I would classify them as such. Then, would those who support riots in the name of other political injustice not also be guilty of sedition?
If we are living a world of black and white, then I would say “yes”. It seems clear to me that when it comes to conservatives, all actions are viewed as “black and white” with no shades in between. However, when you’re on the other side of the political spectrum, THEN there are shades of gray. The double standard makes it impossible to come together.
An older tweet, dated December 2, 20202, from Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez has been circulating (of course). It reads as follows: “The whole point of protesting is to make ppl uncomfortable. Activists take that discomfort w/ the status quo & advocate for concrete policy changes. Popular support often starts small & grows. To folks who complain protest demands make others uncomfortable… that’s the point.“
I see no “overt” call for violence, but the entire statement (and many others) excuse, defend and support “protest” and any discomfort it may cause. She wasn’t the only one to make statements like this, but there’s no need to go through the list. It comes down to a simple matter of: whether she calls for violence, or not, her support of “making people uncomfortable” and continued push to defund the police emboldens the actions and the idea that the “established authority” should be “rebelled against” and it does further “incite dicontent”. And it says “Don’t worry. Go ahead. We’ve got your back.”
I’m not any more likely to go to a Trump rally than a BLM protest. You can read that as “Those are things I’m never going to do.” I don’t like people and I definitely don’t like crowds. I don’t like when anyone is in “my space”. I have long since (always) felt like the vast majority of people behave as though they are the only person on the planet (be that, the sort of person who talks over you – to a point where you wonder why they aren’t just public speakers, because it’s clear they aren’t trying to have an actual conversation, to those who just stop in the middle of aisles/sidewalks/roads to do whatever they fancy, without a care for the people around them) and I definitely don’t trust that, out of hundreds of thousands of people, that at least a handful don’t have nefarious plans.
Where we are different in our opinions is that I believe the same to be true of a Trump rally, Proud Boys gather, BLM protest, NFAC or Anitifa “ideological” event. While so many of you want to act like this behavior is exclusive to one group. Whether you want to ignore it, or not, it is still a fact. Some BLM protestors simply protested; Some destroy property (including Federal property) and commit murder. Some NFAC members exercise their 2nd Amendment rights and bother to take that seriously; Others aren’t legally allowed to own weapons and have “accidental discharges” due to a lack of respect and training for it, thus breaking the law. Antifa, well – I’m not sure I believe any Antifa member is satisfied with words and demonstrations. And yes, I do believe there are extremists who rally under Trump or the Proud Boys.
What I don’t think is that any extremist is a direct reflection of one person, president or entire group they throw their support behind. And I don’t think, if you’re being honest, that you can claim otherwise. You also can’t justify one and not the other. And you definitely cannot have excused the terror and destruction that people have lived through for extended periods and then figuratively shit-your-pants when you suffered it for a few moments of one day. Especially when you are the reason for it.
Speaker Pelosi is also responsible for this civil unrest. Never in my age of awareness has there been a more disruptive, self-serving, wasteful, hate-mongering Speaker of the House. If there was, they were not given such a platform for it. Racism isn’t the only thing alive and well. Sexism still exists, and from my vantage point – the likes of Nancy Pelosi and AOC only serve to solidify negative views towards women in power, and women – period. But that’s another topic, perhaps.
So, why are we here? Fear. Whether your fear is the police or the government. We are here because of fear. That didn’t come from Trump’s speech. And quite frankly, there’s nothing that he’s done, in this time, that you aren’t guilty of. His words brought people to the Capitol building. Your words brought them to the rally. And you haven’t stopped. Now Big Tech has taken away his means to cause any further damage – but they’ve left you with yours.
Post November 3rd, AOC, Omar, MSM and so many others began calling for the cataloging of Trump supporters. Plans to make them pay. Plans to see to their personal destruction. Now they also call for the removal of conservatives who only represented the wishes of part of the American public. You know… their job. But I realize it’s difficult for them to recall that their purpose is to represent the people – even IF you don’t like it.
A few days ago, I read about a girl who considers herself to be a “hacker”, who had joined Parler to download all metadata, in order to share this publicly. This data would be inclusive of user locations.
What the far left has called for is a threat. What this self-professed hacker is doing is a threat. Furthermore, there were many calls, from the left, to shoot people at the Capitol.
You guys never answer anything directly. You try to talk in circles or ignore these things. You can. But it doesn’t change anything and it’s a large part of why people despise you. It’s an even larger part of why someone may think the only recourse left is storming the Capitol.
In the days leading up the 6th of January, and the days since, there have been more calls to destroy conservative thought, platforms, individuals and even calls for “re-education camps”. All of these things contribute to rampant fear and desparation. Therefore, without a call to silence and reject these things – you have to consider yourself as guilty of inciting sedition as you claim President Trump is. (Which btw, fuck off with this impeachment shit. I don’t care who you are – you should be against the waste of tax dollars, after the already wasted tax dollars, on top of the enormous debt that COVID brings. I may need funds, but I don’t want them at the expense of our future generations. However, for those of you who do. This takes away from YOU.)
Now I get to the part of this program that pains me. I love Ted Cruz. I like Dan Crenshaw. I truly have enjoyed Mark Levin’s mind. The list goes on. But you guys are so wrong right now. It never would have occured to ME to visit the Capitol and participate in any of this [BUT] the idea that you wait until after January 6th to clarify that we were all lied to and express anger over what happened… It’s inexcusable. The idea that some participated in events leading up to that day, but then issue blistering commentary about it is hypocritical. You may not have wanted or even believed this would be the outcome, but it was always possible.
I can’t even think of the guy’s name who was a guest on Crenshaw’s podcast – but two things that were said stand out to me even several days later. The first being that we were lied to and that these promises were “never going to happen”, with it being beyond Congress’ power. The second was along the lines of “We have to be careful in what we do because what we do allows for the left to excuse their furture actions.”
What are our thoughts at home? To the first: The matter of impeachment. In order to accomplish this prior to January 20th, changes would have to be presented and voted upon. So, to the public – this appears as though Congress can do anything they want, if it suits them. Which is contrary to the idea that this was all “out of your hands”.
To the second: What you do now. What you don’t do now… will have ZERO impact on what Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi or anyone else decides to do in two years, or four years from now. Or any other time in the future. These people have made it clear they will do whatever they damn well please, whether precedent has been set, or not. When you have no moral compass, you simply have no moral compass. Period. End of discussion. The only thing this would give them is the ability to say “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander”, but either way – if they want to behave in any manner contrary to what’s “right”, they will.
I was raised to work hard, do the right thing, follow the law and all of the “noble” ideals. That good triumphs over evil, and so on. But we are all watching you. We are all watching this. Those things are impossible to believe any longer. We are being attacked. Sometimes, you’ve got to respond in kind.
The fact that the conservative narrative is always “No! We do things the right way. The legal way. The noble way. We don’t sink to their level” etc… Is why we are here, in this place of fear. Because we see that the far left is willing to fight for the far left, in whatever way necessary – good or evil. But you have confined your representation of us to a very narrow path and throw up your hands when their course strays from that path.
You need to be better than this and you have to do more than what you’re doing.
